Life of a Teacher in 2014

At present I am in the midst of Reporting and Assessing, the crazy time of the year for any teacher! Crazy because of the enormity of the expectations from the administration and the hierarchy of the education system.

Whatever happened to education being fun? Many in my Grade 6 class hate school....yes, it's a horrible word but this forum is about truth. I am sad that kids hate school. Schools should be places of learning but kids learn best when they are playing and having fun. Why was all the research thrown out the window?

Who made the decision that our Prep students should be assessed in Science, History, Geography? This is absurd! Has anyone taken into account the if a child gets a 'D' on their report, how that might affect their emotional well-being. The powers to be have become obsessed with data collection and no thought is being given to the emotional well-being of students. They will though, but only after a whole generation of students cannot cope in the world ten years from now. The mental health issues will skyrocket.

Teachers as a group need to rise up and speak the truth, stop saying, "I can't fight the system." We must put the kids well-being first, and then what about our own? We'll deal with that issue next time!
Look at all those bubbles! What are bubbles? What are they made from?
